Brief Information

Wayne Rooney currently the most popular footballer in England. He started is professional career at the age of 16 with Everton. He spent two seasons with the Merseyside Club and then he was moved to Manchester United in the year 2004 for GBP 25.6 million. Popularly known as ‘Wazza’, Rooney plays as a forward for both Manchester United and his national team England.

Since Wayne Rooney has joined England’s most successful club, Manchester United has won the English Premier League five times, the UEFA Champions League once, the FIFA Club World Cup once and the League Club twice. With more than 200 goals under his belt, Rooney is the highest goal scorer for the Manchester United Club of all time.

When Rooney made his international debut in the year 2003 for the England’s senior team he became the youngest ever player to do so. This record later was broken by Theo Walcott.

Personal Life

Despite being a player of Manchester United he supports Everton and Celtic too. He is also one of the biggest supporters of Leeds Rhinos Rugby League Club. Rooney wanted to become a boxer but later gave up boxing to become a professional footballer. Although he still uses the boxing just to maintain his temper.

Wayne Rooney has also done a hair transplant in Harley Street’ Hair Clinic.

Family

Rooney married Coleen Rooney (McLoughlin) who was his school mate at a secondary school. They got married on 12th June 2008 after six years of dating.

Commercial endorsements

Wayne Rooney endorses Nike for which he is the face of their T90 Laser IV boots. Apart from Nike he also endorses Nokia, Ford, Asda and Coca-Cola. He even appeared on the UK version of EA Sport’s FIFA series from FIFA 06 to FIFA 12 continuously.

His autobiography was ghostwritten by Hunter Havies, named ‘My Story So Far’ in the year 2006. The book was published by Harper Collins. Rooney got a handsome amount of GBP 5 million as royalties for a minimum of five books to be published over a twelve-year period.
