Gillette Stadium (The Razor)

Gillette Stadium, also known as the Razor Stadium comes with an area of a whopping 1.9 million square feet and a capacity of 65,878. It was back in 2000 when this stadium was constructed with club seats of almost 6000. This stadium was opened to its spectators in 2002.

This stadium comes with several other amenities such as 88 luxury suites, 4 ATM machines, 4 First Aid facilities and 8 Cash-to-Card Kiosks. To make sure everyone gets a view of the game, they have installed 2 HD Video Boards (54′ x 220′ and 45′ x 100′) too. There are around 1500 television monitors and 2000 points of distributed sound.

History

Gillette Stadium (The Razor)
FILE – In this Sunday, Sept. 22, 2019, file photo, championship banners hang at Gillette Stadium before an NFL football game between the New England Patriots and the New York Jets, in Foxborough, Mass. The home of the Patriots has a new sponsorship deal with Abacus Health Products that will put the cannabidiol company’s hemp leaf logo on a water tower looming over the stadium and on a sign overlooking an entrance.

Before 2002 Gillette stadium was popularly known as the old Foxboro Stadium. The first-ever event that took place at the newly constructed Gillette stadium was the New England Revolution soccer game in 2002. On this particular day, a grand ceremony was held before a New England Patriots game that fall. Talking about the stadium, it is an open-air one where the field consists of ‘FieldTurf,’ which replaced real grass in 2006 after a rainstorm wore away much of the field.

There was an announcement regarding the construction of the $325 million stadium and considerable additional changes to the area. Besides this, there were also some discussions about moving the stadium out of Foxborough, along with a possible move to South Boston or even out of state to Providence, Rhode Island. But at the end of the day, there was no way to change the location. Still, Routed 1 was connected to a new road, allowing easier access to the stadium.

But changing the name of the stadium didn’t break the sellout streak for the New England Patriots. In order to handle this popularity, they came up with almost 3,000 extra parking spaces at the new venue.

Gillette Stadium is much more than just a sports stadium. The arena is surrounded by patriot places which are made up of shops and restaurants. This particular part of the stadium was installed back in 2006 under Patriots owner Robert Kraft’s goal to create a ‘super-regional lifestyle and entertainment centre.’

Talking about the Patriot Place, it has several vendors from the first Bass Pro Shops in New England to the oft-frequented Toby Keith’s Bar and Grille. Apart from that, it also has a health centre, a four-star hotel and last but not least a movie theatre. So, one can consider this place a great option for sports, shopping, food and more, making for a fun visit any time of the year.

Gillette Stadium is a bit farther away from the state’s capital than Fenway Park or TD Garden, but all credits to MBTA. The fans that are much closer to the city can make their way to the stadium through commuter rail during the Patriots’ home games, accessible on the Providence/Stoughton and Franklin lines.

Design

Talking about the design of Gillette stadium, it perfectly captures the heritage of New England along with an amazing display of local flavour too. It also represents the coastal heritage of the particular region in a seascape scene that complements the bridge and lighthouse and flanks the players’ entrance to the field. Besides this, it comes with a stylized lighthouse and also a bridge that is known for greeting fans entering the stadium at the Enel Plaza, creating the stadium’s signature view. Here, guests can be sure of experiencing the unique view of the action from atop the bridge, which is known to connect the east and west sides of the Main Concourse at the base of the lighthouse.

Gillette Stadium (The Razor)

While designing this stadium, one thing that was given the foremost importance was none other than the satisfaction of guests and fans. To ensure this part, they made sure there were unobstructed views from the entire length of each of its wide concourses ensuring a great view of the field from practically anywhere inside the turnstiles.

Apart from the main stadium area, there are also a number of additional gathering areas such as Bud Light Party Deck on the Main Concourse, the DraftKings Fantasy Sports Zone, and last but not least the Encore Boston Harbor Terrace on the Upper Concourse. There is also a communal space where fans can gather to socialize before, during and after games.
