About Wales Rugby Union Team

The Wales National Rugby Union Team represents the United Kingdom country Wales in the international rugby tournaments and test matches. The major tournament Wales rugby union team play is the Six Nations Tournament along with England, France, Ireland, Scotland and Italy. The Wales rugby union team is certainly a team which can’t be ignored when an another team plays against them. They are at their best while playing the Six Nations tournament as they have won this tournament for not less than 26 times!! Not only that they are the current holders of the Six Nations trophy as well. Wales rugby union team is also highly regarded by the IRB and they have put the team in the ‘Tier One’ of the international rugby.

The governing body of the Wales rugby union team, the Welsh Rugby Union or WRU was established in the year 1881 and on the same  year Wales played their first ever international game against England in the then ‘Five Nations Rugby’, although they were defeated by their neighbors.

The most famous win for the Wales rugby union came in 1905 when they defeated the mighty All Blacks team of New Zealand by 3-0 at the Arms Park. Before and in between the two World Wars, Wales rugby struggled a bit to find their place in the top rugby union teams of the world, but since 1960s, they have become a formidable side when they won 8 Five Nations Championships between 1969 and 1980 including 3 shared wins.

The Wales rugby union team has participated in all the IRB Rugby World Cups till date and their best performance came in the first world cup itself in 1987 when they finished 3rd.
