Yaya is the younger brother of Kolo Toure, who was his teammate at Beveren, Manchester City, and the Ivorian national team. Their younger brother Ibrahim was also a footballer, who died on 19 June 2014 at the age of 28 after a short battle with cancer. Touré is a practicing Muslim. Touré joined a campaign against elephant poaching, becoming a goodwill ambassador for the United Nations Environment Programme in October 2013. Yaya is married to Gineba, the pair married in 2004 when they were aged 20. They have a son named Dimitri Toure.

Although when he started his career as a Youth football player who played from ASES Mimosas, Yaya Toure always wanted to be a striker.

All in all, since he became professional in the year 2001, Yaya Toure has played for six different professional football clubs. But since 2010 he has been an integral part of the Manchester City team. Apparently, Yaya Toure has played in Belgium, Ukraine, Greece, France, Spain, and then England. He was part of Barcelona, which won the six trophies in a single year in 2009. Yaya Toure played over 100 matches for Barcelona.

Touré won the BBC African Footballer of the Year on a public vote for the second time, after leading Ivory Coast to victory in the 2015 African Cup of Nations.
